Climate justice activism 2.0: Summit for strategies toward systemic change
Timeframe: 01.03.2025-30.04.2026
Our world is facing climate and biodiversity crises that require immediate action. Young people are at the forefront of movements fighting to address these issues, but they face a complex landscape of challenges including climate anxiety, political backlash, and the rise of regressive movements as well as a shrinking space for civil society and a shifting political agenda due to economic struggles and rising geopolitical tensions.
Climate justice activism 2.0: Conference for strategies toward systemic change brought together young climate justice activists (18-30 years) from the Nordic countries during a summit in Malmö in November 2025, where they worked together to develop strategies for systemic change. The project empowered youth by providing tools, skills and connections to increase impact.
The Strategy Book for Climate Justice Activism
In November 2025, young climate justice activists from the Nordic region gathered in Malmö for a Climate Justice Activism Summit. The summit centred around activities that prompted reflection and discussion on climate justice issues, aimed at developing impactful strategies including communication, mental health, and anti-repression, and connected activists across borders.
The insights from the summit have been collected inThe Strategy Book for Climate Justice Activism. Structured around three main themes (strategies for climate justice activism, communicating climate justice, and anto-repression and mental health for activists), the book brings together information, practical tips, activity suggestions, and recommended reading material to function as a resource for young climate justice activists.
Project Objectives
Objective 1
Create long-term impact by empowering young climate justice activists to drive systemic change through effective strategies.
Objective 2
Encourage collaboration and alliances between Nordic climate activist networks.
Results
Mapping Barriers
Through local workshops, climate justice activists shared their experiences within activism, the challenges they face, and the opportunities they see. Their inputs formed the basis for a Climate Justice Summit in Malmö in November 2025, determining the issues, topics, and activities that were included in the programme.
Climate Justice Summit
During a two-day summit, young climate justice activists from the Nordic region came together in Malmö to discuss challenges to impactful climate justice activism, share best practices, and collaborate to develop strategic approaches to driving change.
A Guide Book
The approaches and strategies developed during the Climate Justice Summit were collected in a guide book (The Strategy Book for Climate Justice Actvism) to be shared among climate activist networks.
