Digital Education to Counter Disinformation of ClimateChange through AI-literacy (DECODE-AI)

About DECODE-AI

DECODE-AI responds to the dual challenge of climate change and digitalisation, including the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI). Both converge in risks of mis- and disinformation on climate change being spread through AI, impacting perceptions of climate change, climate action and trust in science and democracy.

Recognising education as an integral tool to build resilience by fostering media and information literacy (MIL), including AI literacy, DECODE-AI seeks to equip both secondary school teachers and studets with relevant green, digital and MIL skills.

Timeframe: September 2026-February 2028

What does the project aim to do?

  1. Strengthen AI and climate literacy to build resilience to mis- and disinformation among students and teachers.

  2. Empower teachers to integrate AI-related teaching into their classrooms and transfer relevant green and digital skills to students.

  3. Create a reflective framework for ongoing practices enabling secondary school students and teachers to critically engage with AI in classroom contexts around the topic of climate change.

  4. Foster critical awareness of climate science and encourage sustainable behaviour and attitudes.

What concrete outputs is the project working towards?

  • 6 gamified learning modules will be developed and made available to secondary school teachers alongside a Game Manual on how to use and adapt the learning materials.

  • 2+ high school teachers in Sweden and Germany each will be trained to deliver the gamified DECODE-AI learning experience.teachers.

  • 10+ high school students in Sweden and Germany each will acquire AI and climate literacy skills.

  • The project will inspire others to adopt sustainable behaviours and think critically around AI and climate change through national open house events and a transnational webinar.

  • The partner organisations will improve their capacity to design initiatives within the fields of climate change and AI literacy, and strengthen their ability to include topics of climate change, AI and AI literacy into regular educational activities.

How does DECODE-AI connect to Erasmus+ priorities

  • Digital transformation: fostering AI literacy and building skills for responsible use of AI

  • Environment and fight against climate change: building climate literacy and critical awareness of climate change mis- and disinformation
